Coaching Info
USA Hockey’s policies require all on-ice hockey volunteers (head coaches, assistant coaches, on-ice assistants to register with USA Hockey, complete SafeSport training, complete a background check, compete CEP training, and age specific modules.

Coaching Requirements
- Register with USA Hockey
- Registration must be renewed annually.
- Register with USA Hockey
- Complete the required SafeSport training (Note: this is required yearly for all volunteers)
- Complete the required USA Hockey Background Screening (Note: The background screen is conducted through a national vendor, NCSI, and is valid for two seasons. The screening cost is $30).
- Complete the required USA Hockey Foundations of Player Development Pre-requisite and the Age Specific Training Modules for the level of play that you are coaching.
- Register and complete the a Coaching Clinic.
- Complete TAHA Volunteer Registration.

Information
Coaching Clinics
- Clinics need to be completed by December 31.
- New clinics are created monthly, so check back often if you don't see one that works for you.
Level 3 Certification
- Level 3 is only valid for one year.
- You must obtain Level 4 before December 31 of the next year.
- Level 4 courses are now offered online.
Level 4 Certification
- Level 4 is valid for three years.
- Coaches need 5 CEP credits every year.
Mites
- Mite coaches only need Level 1, which does not expire.
Age-Specific Modules
- Must be completed before you can be on a roster.
- There are now only 3 modules: 8U, 12U, and 13+.
Background Screening
- Conducted through USA Hockey.
- This is to be completed every other season.
SafeSport
- Refresher courses are required every season.
- The complete course is required every three seasons.
